Customer & PRODUCT Care

What's the best way to burn your candles?

Always allow the wax burn pool to reach the outer edges of the jars before extinguishing the flame. This will prevent the wax from "tunnelling" and allow your candle to burn evenly. We recommend burning your candle for 2-3 hours at a time but for never more than 4 hours. Never leave the candle unattended.

How fragrant are Handmade Candles?

Because we use natural soy wax, our candles will not have the same scent throw as paraffin candles. We like that our candles are not overwhelming and can be used daily. Our candles fill a medium-size room nicely.

Why use soy wax?

There are so many reasons! To name a few, we love that it's a renewable material and carbon neutral. We love that it burns cleanly, evenly and for a longer period of time than paraffin waxes. We love the way soy wax smells when blended with fragrance oils. But most of all, we love working with soy wax because it's a non-toxic and natural material that we can touch and feel with human hands every day without damaging skin.

Never leave a burning candle unattended

Always put out candles when leaving a room or before going to sleep.  You should also put out a candle if the candle smokes, repeatedly flickers or the flame isn't controlled.

Burn candles out of the reach of children and pets

Never place lit candles where they can be easily knocked over by anyone, especially children and pets.

Always leave at least 10cm between burning candles

Follow recommended minimum distances stated on the packaging, or if not available, leave at least 10cm to be safe.  Candles placed too close together can drip or soot, and tealights can flare up.

Do not burn candles on or near anything that can catch fire.

Place candles on a heat resistant and non-flammable surface, at least 30cm away from anything that can catch fire, including but not limited to curtains, decorations etc.

Trim wick to about 1cm before lighting

Trim the wick with scissors or a wick trimmer before lighting the candle.  If the wick is too long, a lump of carbon might form on it as it burns (known as clubbing) or the flame might become too high and start to soot.

Do not place candles in a draught

Keep candles out of draughts to prevent rapid, uneven burning, sooting and excessive dripping.  Also, lightweight curtains can waft into the flame if in a draught.

Always snuff out the flame, do not blow it out

For safety's sake, use a candle snuffer when putting out a candle.  It's especially important not to blow down at a candle in a container, such as a tealight. as this increases the risk of flaring and hot wax could spatter up in your face.

Use a suitable container as these candles liquefy when burning

Always use a candle holder of suitable size and shape, as this kind of candle becomes liquid while burning.

Keep the wax pool clear of matches and other debris to avoid flaring

Flammable objects in the wax pool, such as matches, insects, flammable decorations or lumps from the wick, can ignite and cause the candle to overheat and flare up.

Only use tealights in holders, oil burners & warming stoves with sufficient ventilation

Insufficient ventilation can cause the tealight to flare up.

To Use:

Simply remove from the packaging or container, break off the desired amount off wax and place in the top of your melter.  The wax will melt slowly in the dish as it heats up and releases the fragrance.  When the tea light has been extinguished or the melter has been turned off, the wax will re-harden ready for use next time.  Unlike candles, the wax in melts will not evaporate.

You can re-use the wax several times until the fragrance has completely dispersed.

  • Keep melted wax away from children and pets.

  • Always use within sight, and never leave unattended.

  • Always ensure that you do not overfill your bowl

  • Wax will remain hot after the tea light has been extinguished or your burner has been switched off.

  • Do not try to move the oil burner or wax melter until it has cooled completely, and the wax has solidified.

  • Do not add water or fragrance oils to the bowl under any circumstances

  • Keep wax clear of debris

  • Only ever use unscented tea lights

  • Only use standard sized tea lights (burn time is approx. 4hrs).  Never use the larger 8hr tea lights!
And never use more than 1 tealight at a time.

  • Ensure that the surface under the melter is heatproof.

  • Do not eat!

Wax Melt Tips:

  • Ensure the tea light has extinguished or you have turned the melter off. Allow the wax to cool slightly and simply pop a cotton wool ball or some tissue in the bowl.  This will soak up the melted wax.

  • Please dispose of the wax carefully.  DO NOT pour down the plughole (the wax will harden and cause a blockage)!!

  • Give the bowl a wipe with a clean piece of kitchen roll to remove any leftover residue, and the melter is ready to use again.

  • Please do not place your burner in the freezer.  This can cause the wax melter or glass top to fracture and could cause the burner to become unsafe.
